TOPIC: Cardiovascular Disease TYPE: Medical Student/Resident Case Reports INTRODUCTION: Hyponatremia is one of the most common electrolyte disturbances seen in hospitalized patients. Sodium essential for many conduction pathways including those found cardiac myocytes. Severe hyponatremia can result a loss and development arrhythmias reversible with replacement. We report case patient who developed recurrent episodes bradyarrhythmia both pulseless electrical activity (PEA) arrest ventricular asystole as severe hyponatremia. CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old male presented altered mental status shortness breath. On admission, there were multiple abnormalities consistent chronic alcoholism hydrochlorothiazide use. Labs revealed an acute hypoosmolar sodium 111 mmol/L. levels remained unchanged despite infusion 3% hypertonic saline. Without inciting event, sinus bradycardia immediately followed by PEA arrest. He was successfully resuscitated using ACLS protocol three minutes chest compressions 1 mg epinephrine. After fourteen hours continuation saline infusion, serum increased to 118 At that time, another unprovoked episode bradyarrhythmia. Telemetry showed atrioventricular block variable rapidly progressed asystole. initiated within thirty seconds returned rhythm. continued clinically improve his normal range. The Aassociation between Pre-Cardiac Arrest Comorbidity and Unsuccessful Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Patients with Cardiac Arrest
Background and Objective: Patients suffering from cardiac arrest (CA) have poor prognosis and survival. The association of pre-arrest comorbidity with unsuccessful resuscitation in patients with CA is far from clear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between pre-existing comorbidity and unsuccessful resuscitation following CA in Iranian patients. Materials and Met...
متن کاملSevere neonatal hyperbilirubinemia leading to exchange transfusion
Background :Severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. This study was conducted to investigate the causes of severe hyperbilirubinemia leading to Exchange Transfusion (ET) from March 2009 to March 2011 in Bahrami children hospital, Tehran, Iran in order to establish guidelines to prevent profound jaundice & ET. Methods : 94 neonates underwent ...

We report a case of successful transcutaneous external pacing for out of hospital cardiac arrest causing asystole.
متن کاملA Case report of hemodynamic instability, cardiac arrest, and acute severe dyspnea subsequent to inhalation of crystal methamphetamine
Misuse of stimulants similar to amphetamine is a universal problem. These stimulants cause many complications in their abusers. However, myocardial infarction is rarely reported as a complication of amphetamine abuse. Herein, we report a man aged 42 years presented at the Emergency Department with the chief complaint of acute dyspnea following ice inhalation without history of dyspnea. Within t...
متن کاملAn unusual reason for severe bradycardia leading to cardiac arrest during general anaesthesia: a case report.
BACKGROUND Takotsubo cardiomyopathy also known as transient balooning syndrome is an increasingly reported phenomenon characterized by acute reversible apical or midventricular dysfunction. This stress- induced cardiomyopathy mimics myocardial infarction, but without significant coronary artery disease, and rarely presents in perioperative period. METHODS AND RESULTS We report a case of postm...
